Product description

The eighth issue of the quarter-ounce gold medal by the Czech Mint from a series titled the Look-out towers belongs to the oldest look-out tower in Jeseniky. The potential of the look- out tower Biskupská kupa the tourists enthusiasts discovered already in 1875.

Back then they built a simple observation point by piling up the stones. It was, however, dismantled from the official order a year later. In 1890 there was, from the initiative of the Moravian Student Mountain Club, built a five-storey wooden tower with a height of 13 meters. Although the truncated tetrahedral pyramid was anchored with steel cables, it was destroyed by a storm in 1896. However, the enthusiasts have not been lazy and in its place stood a stone look-out tower already in 1898. For a long time it was appreciated by the visitors, but after World War II began to deteriorate. In 1967 it was closed and served as a television converter only. The look-out tower began to fulfill its original purpose again in 1996 and in 1998, on the occasion of its hundredth "birthday", has undergone a general overhaul.

The obverse side of the medal, whose artistic proposal was designed by an experienced medalist Luboš Charvát, offers a view of the observation tower as we know it today. The inscriptions indicate the name of the look-out tower and also the year of an establishment of its stone form. The composition is complemented by two postmens musical horns - one contemporary and one modern - because the Biskupská kupa is our oldest mountain posal house since 1890. The reverse side of the medal is given to the parameters of 19.3 meters high construction, standing on the hill with an altitude of 890 height above sea level. A stylized staircase symbolizes the 95 steps, that lead to the top of the look-out tower. The last element of the reverse is a portal, bearing the inscription "Kaiser Franz Josef Warte" - the stone look-out tower has been opened on the occasion of 50 years of the reign of the Austrian emperor.

Do not forget, that in an offer of the Czech Mint is also a luxury collectible etue, made of dark wood, which accommodates the entire series of 12 most beautiful look-out towers.
