Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends
Another addition to the collector´s series "Legends of Czechoslovak Hockey" presents a player who was famous both at home and overseas. The gold coin of the Czech Mint belongs to Jaroslav Pouzar.
Jaroslav Pouzar went to America in 1982. He joined the NHL as a star of the Motor České Budějovice ice hockey club and national team. The 30-year-old hockey player became a world champion in 1976 and 1977. He was excited. He did not speak English, did not know where Edmonton was situated, and he even did not know the most famous star of the local Oilers club. "They asked me about Wayne Gretzky after arrival. I said I knew him, but I did not. I only knew that he played at the World Championships in Finland in 1982, but somehow I did not notice him, " remembers the left wing. He did not know that the legendary Canadian would soon become his loyal partner in attack. And he could not even know that he would pick up three Stanley Cups in less than four seasons in 1984, 1985 and 1987. His team was declared the best of NHL history.
Medal maker Luboš Charvát dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the portrait of Jaroslav Pouzar surrounded by jersey number 23, depiction of Stanley Cup and an inscription WORLD CHAMPION 1976 1977 - STANLEY CUP WINNER 1984 1985 1987 – MEMBER OF CZECH HOCKEY HALL OF FAME. The coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign license of the State of Samoa and their obverse side therefore bears the necessary attributes of this issuer - the national emblem, the portrait and the name of the emperor Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of the issue 2019.
Do not miss the stylish collector´s etui in the form of a puck that will hold the whole series of coins dedicated to the stars of our ice hockey.
