Tokyo Olympics

At the Tokyo Olympics, the Czech team won a total of eleven medals - four gold, four silver and three bronze. A gold coin of the Czech Mint pays tribute to the Olympic gold medallist Jiří Lipták.

Two Czechs - Brno natives and great friends
Jiří Lipták and David Kostelecký - conquered the Olympic trap competition, in which shooters with double-barrelled shotguns hit flying targets. In the six-man final, marked by windy conditions and nervousness, they held out until the duel for the gold. After 50 shots they both had 43 hits and in the additional shootout they were both flawless until the seventh series. While David Kostelecky missed and gained silver medal, Jiri Lipták got the biggest success of his career after the European Champion title or two world bronzes. "I am glad that after the Czech shooting team failed to win any medals in Rio, David and I started a new series here. I had to laugh, because this is something I would never have thought of in my wildest dreams. It was such a goal of ours - to stand on the podium together at a big competition. But to do it at the Olympics? And that we'd be standing next to each other? That's a blast!" rejoiced the new Olympic gold medallist at the double triumph of Czech sport.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of medal maker
MgA. Martin Dašek, presents the shooter triumphantly raising his rifle above his head. The inscription states JIŘÍ LIPTÁK – TOKIO 2020 – ZLATÁ MEDAILE – TRAP (JIŘÍ LIPTÁK - TOKYO 2020 - GOLD MEDAL - TRAP). The sports coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the State of Samoa, therefore, their obverse side bears the necessary attributes of this issuer - the national emblem, the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST).

Do not miss the golden memory of a unique golden triumph of Czech sport!
