Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends
The Czech Mint dedicated the gold coins from the cycle Legends of Czechoslovak Hockey to Martin Ručinský, the last "golden boy" from Nagano.
Martin Ručinský became famous especially as a fast-legged wing. He was five years old when his father took him to the Litvínov stadium. However, his beginnings were not easy - his peers grew faster and were often taller. Therefore, "Růča" had to compensate his physical disposition for style and flawless skating. "Skating can be improved at any age, but mostly skating skills are encoded in childhood. It was probably a talent from nature, but my game was based on it, so I still had to develop it, " the attacker explains the secret of his success. He eventually caught up with his peers, outgrown some of them, and all that remained was the refined skating style from which he benefited throughout his career. "Today, skating is alpha and omega of the whole sport," emphasizes the hockey player, who holds two Olympic medals - gold from Nagano and bronze from Turin - and who became a world champion three-times …
The academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů became the author of the last coin from the hockey cycle. The reverse side of the coin is dominated by a faithful portrait of Martin Ručinský from the time of the triumph in Nagano. The coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a foreign license of the State of Samoa, therefore their obverse side bears the necessary attributes of this issuer – the state coat of arms, the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of the issue 2020.
You can save the complete collection of fourteen hockey coins in a special collector's case in the form of a puck which you will also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
