Product description
Marta Kubisova becomes the sixth and the penultimate musical legend, immortalized in one ounce of pure gold. The commemorative medal from the cycle Golden Nightingales from the Czech Mint celebrates the 75th birthday not only of a favorite singer, but also of a freedom fighter.
Marta Kubisova's became a star in the 1960s, when she stayed in the limelight for only 5 years due to the totalitarian regime that resided. She then became even brighter. The singer's repertoire was unusually rich - it contained blues, real rock and chanson-tuned songs. Marta Kubisova had an unmistakable voice - intense, deeply colored, harsh and spirited. She did not usually perform alone - she gained extraordinary popularity with the Golden Kids singing trio, where she worked with Vaclav Neckar and Helena Vondrackova. Marta Kubisova won her first Nightingale in 1966. The fateful year came in 1968, when the Warsaw Pact troops invaded Czechoslovakia, and the singer became one of the symbols of resistance against the occupation through a song known as "Prayer for Martha". In spite of the regime, she won a prestigious music awards twice - in 1968 and 1969. However, she took over her third and last Nightingale only in the retreat of the Young World magazine and she was banned from performing in 1970. She returned in the next 20 years. Who else should sing on the occasion of the Velvet Revolution ...
A commemorative medal that remembers not only the singer's winning musical career but also her sacrifice in a time of non-freedom, is the work of an expert medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek. The obverse side of the medal belongs to her face in simplified outlines. Her mouth is covered by a five-pointed star symbolizing the oppression of the communist regime. The composition of the obverse side is complemented by the name MARTA KUBIŠOVÁ. The base of the reverse side of the medal is filled with the words of Martha's Prayer, which are covered with four major years - 66, 68, 69 and 70 - the last of which is again covered by a Soviet star.
The gold medal, weighing just one troy ounce, was limited to 100 pieces. Each of them is hand-numbered on the edge and has its place in the beautiful and practical collector's etui from the Czech Mint.
