Product description

The latest addition of a sought gold series the Look-out towers from the Czech Mint is decorated with a very specific dominant feature of the South Moravian town of Lednice. It is the minaret of Lednice-Valtice area, which is written on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The history of the minaret began at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, from the decision of Prince Alois I Josef of Liechtenstein, who wished to give to the Lednice park an interesting architectural features. The result were the no longer existing Chinese Pavilion, the Temple of the Sun or the Neo-Gothic cathedral. Between 1797 and 1802 also came the Turkish tower, the unique look-out tower known to all under the name of Lednický minaret. It is the largest building of its kind outside the Islamic countries. Withits proposal the prince commissioned his architect Josef Hardtmuth, which allegedly drew up the project in a single night. To build on the swampy terrain was not easy, the base consisted of 500 alder pilots with a length of 17 m, connected with 96 oak grates, on which the stone subbase was placed. According to one legend, ther was a spindle scaffold, to which the workers did not trust. To calm them down, an officer of cavalry regiment mounted his horse and rode to the top. The actual "mosque" is composed of eight halls, whose decoration was probably taken care of by the artists from the Arab countries. The minaret reaches a height of 65 meters and to its peak leads 302 steps. The Liechtenstein spent around one million guilders on it.

The magnificence of the monumental work of art represents a medal weighing one troy ounce of pure gold with superior mintage in a quality proof. An imaginative conception of both sides is the work of an academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, that on the obverse portrayed an imposing look-out tower, accompanied by arabesques, that adorn its halls. The inscription says the name of the building and its altitude: LOOK-OUT TOWER LEDNICKÝ MINARET 175 m n. m. For the reverse side the artist compiled a view of the spiral staircase of the look-out tower and around the perimeter joined the text: PÁLAVA, BRNO, CHŘIBY MOUNTAINS, WHITE CARPATHIAN MOUNATINS, POHANSKO, CATHEDRAL OF ST. STEPHAN IN VIENNA - These are the places, that can be seen from the top of the look-out tower. He also included the information 302 STEPS.
