Gold one-kilo medal Bohemian Crown Jewels - St. Wenceslas Crown with precious stones stand

The St. Wenceslas Crown is a unique and inimitable piece – the only original in the world. Equally original is the kilogram gold medal from the Czech Mint, which pays tribute to the largest of the Czech Crown Jewels. It is covered with authentic precious stones and only one single piece has been issued!

The royal crown is an ancient symbol of power. Its origins date back to the rulers of ancient civilizations. Egyptian pharaohs, Persian kings, Roman emperors, and Germanic chieftains – all of them wanted to distinguish themselves from their subjects at first glance. They used not only clothing but also jewelry for this purpose, and since the head is the most important, most visible, and highest part of the human body, it was given special attention. Various types of headgear in the form of helmets, wreaths, and diadems gradually evolved into the crown, which became a universally respected symbol of power... The royal crown was also worn by Czech kings during their coronation. In the 14th century, Charles IV had it made together with the royal orb and scepter. The lavishly decorated Gothic jewel was made of 22-carat gold, 19 sapphires, 44 spinels, 1 ruby, 30 emeralds, and 20 pearls. However, its most valuable part was a thorn from Christ's crown of thorns, which ensured that the Czech king would be symbolically crowned in the same way as the Son of God. The name "St. Wenceslas Crown" referred to the Přemyslid traditions and thus to the very idea of the Czech state. Surprisingly, the crown was not the personal property of the king. Thanks to St. Wenceslas, the heavenly patron, it belonged to the entire nation and embodied the unity of all the lands of the Czech Crown. Thanks to these noble ideas, unlike many other European jewels, it was not lost in the whirlwind of history. Today, this precious treasure is permanently stored in the Crown Chamber of St. Vitus Cathedral...

On the obverse side of the medal from the studio of medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák, you will find an overall view of the St. Wenceslas Crown, supplemented with a detailed view of the cross decorating the top of the jewel. The relief is further complemented by heraldic symbols – the Czech lion and the Moravian eagle. The reverse side of the medal is dedicated to Carolingian architecture – St. Vitus Cathedral and St. Wenceslas Chapel, where the Czech coronation jewels are stored.
