Czech Lion 2019

"Czech Lions", a series of investment coins minted in the Czech Mint with a foreign license, were introduced to the world in several different versions in 2017. They are also offered in 2019. The coin made of one quarter of a troy ounce of pure gold belongs to hot new products.

Every Czech knows that a two-tailed lion is a dominant heraldic animal of the Czech Republic. But how can be this exotic beast placed on the the emblem of the country situated in the heart of Europe? A cue would be the Legend of Bruncvik, a mythical prince who left his sweetheart and went into the world to seek honor and glory. He helped the king of animals to fight the beast when his ship wrecked along the coasts of far Africa. Since then, the grateful lion had followed him, they had seen many adventures together and had won a miraculous sword. Bruncvik returned to the Czech lands seven years later and fought for the heart of his chosen. They lived happily together until death. The faithful lion was immortalized on the standard. Old chroniclers provide more accurate explanation, but they used to embellish their stories and therefore there is a number of doubts. However, the first documented Czech lion was a symbol of the Premyslid dynasty and appeared on the riding seal of Vladislav Jindrich in 1203. The lion became the national symbol thanks to Premysl Otakar II, the king of iron and gold.

The reverse side of the investment coin presents two other symbols of the Czech statehood besides the two-tailed Czech lion. These are the St. Wenceslas crown and the flaming St. Wenceslas Eagle. The obverse side bears the linden branch together with the attributes of the island of Niue that provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to coin its own coins. These are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD). The author of the original drawing design was Jaroslav Bejvl, who left us forever at the age of 75. Therefore the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. continues processing this masterpiece.

While the schedule of issuance of the world investment coins counts millions of pieces per year, the issue of a quarter-ounce gold coin of the Czech Mint is limited to only 1,000 pieces in 2019.
