Antoni Gaudí appears on the gold coin of the Czech Mint from the free cycle commemorating important personalities of world history.

Catalonia, located in the north-eastern corner of Spain, is a state within a state. Its inhabitants, who do not identify themselves as Spanish but as Catalans, have long sought independence. They are rightly proud of their wealth - not only economic, but also historical and, above all, artistic. After all, such greats as the painter Salvador Dalí and the architect Antoni Gaudí were among the convinced CatalansFrom childhood, Gaudí excelled in geometry and admired nature. He seamlessly combined the two in his unmistakable work. Art Nouveau, Expressionism, Naturalism? The Catalan modernist genius with a boundless imagination cannot be easily pigeonholed. He began with Orientalism, moved on to Neo-Gothicism and then, using Baroque inspirations, developed his own naturalistic form of Art Nouveau. "The straight line belongs to man, the curve belongs to God," said the man who found inspiration in natural shapes and structures. He combined self-contained constructions with decorativeness. He paid particular attention to detail and colour. It was not only his approach to design that was innovative, but also his approach to technology. The final buildings were original. They looked like something from another world, but the Catalans adopted them as their own. Casa Vicens, Colegio Teresiano, Park Güell, Casa Milà. Barcelona would not be Barcelona without them. But one landmark stands out above the rest - the Sagrada Família. This breathtaking temple was Gaudí's life's work, and he worked on it from the beginning of his career until his death. Although the sanctuary is still unfinished today, it is the most visited architectural monument in all of Spain...

The author of the commemorative coin is the medal maker Mgr. Art. Miroslav Hric, Art. The faithful portrait of the architect inspired by a contemporary photograph is supplemented by the inscription ANTONI GAUDÍ and a fragment of a window of the Barcelona house Casa Batlló on the reverse side of the coinThe obverse side of the coin then presents Gaudí's famous temple surrounded by the inscription SAGRADA FAMÍLIA. As this is a coin issued under a foreign licence from the island of Niue, the obverse side still bears the necessary attributes of the issuer - the national emblem, the nominal value of 25 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.

The coin, which is issued in a limited edition of only 100 pieces, is supplemented with a pictorial certificate of authenticity.
