Product description

The motif of the second gold ducat from the three-part mini-series by the Czech Mint, which commemorates the fateful adventures of the Good Soldier Švejk through illustrations by Josef Lada, is a catastrophe involving a Stables Pinscher.

"Once upon a time, there was a little dog named Fox, who lived with a sergeant. A maid took him for a walk, and a gentleman came along and stole him. Fox ended up in the army with a lieutenant, who named him Max. Max, give me your paw! You see, you idiot, we'll be good friends if you're nice and obedient. Otherwise, you'll have a rough time in the army." Max jumped off Švejk's lap and began to happily pester him. By evening, when the lieutenant returned from the barracks, Švejk and Max were the best of friends. Looking at Max, Švejk thought philosophically: "When you think about it, every soldier is actually stolen from his home." First Lieutenant Lukáš was very pleasantly surprised when he saw Max, who also seemed very happy to see the man with the saber again. When asked where he was from and how much he cost, Švejk calmly replied that the dog had been given to him by a friend who had just enlisted.

Lieutenant Lukáš had no idea what misfortune he had brought upon himself when he asked his valet to get him a Stables Pinscher. Švejk, who in civilian life was a dishonest dog dealer, had the purebred pet stolen. When the lieutenant was walking with Max through Prague, he was stopped by the distraught Colonel Kraus von Zillergut, who recognized the animal as his lost Fox. The innocent lieutenant tried in vain to justify himself—even though he was not to blame, he was sent to the front as punishment. Švejk also had to leave the comfort of his home...

The gold ducat, designed by medallist Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., is a faithful relief reconstruction of Josef Lada's book illustrations. The obverse side depicts Švejk, First Lieutenant Lukáš, and the stable pincher that the bellboy brought to the officer's apartment. The reverse side commemorates the consequences of Švejk's actions – you will find the enraged colonel shouting at the first lieutenant in the street because of the stolen dog.

Do not miss that the first gold ducat came with a special collector's album where you can store the complete collection of three ducats.
