Patrons
The eighth gold mini coin of the Czech Mint from the Patrons series is dedicated to the Apostle Saint Lucas.
St. Lucas, one of the twelve followers of Jesus Christ, never met his master in person - he was brought to faith by St. Peter only after the death of the Messiah. Yet he became not only an apostle but also an evangelist. He wrote the third book of the New Testament and added a sequel to the Gospel, which tells the early history of the Church. These texts are considered to be the most readable and stylistically sophisticated chapters of the Bible. St. Lucas is also famous as a painter who is credited with several paintings of the Virgin Mary. Although he had the soul of an artist, he used to be a doctor, and perhaps that is why he emphasized goodness and mercy in his parables... Doctors, surgeons, pharmacists and artists, especially painters - they all invoke Saint Lucas as their patron saint. He is also the protector of cattle and is asked for help by butchers.
Saint Lucas is often depicted as the painter of the image of the Virgin Mary, and it is this image that the medal maker David Kružliak has attributed to him. The portrait of the apostle on the reverse side of the coin is accompanied by the Czech-English inscription SAINT LUKÁŠ - SAINT LUKE. The obverse side then presents the profile and name of the monarch Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) - or the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign licence to mint its own commemorative coins.
The gold coin weighing one half gram is set in a special Czech-English packaging. It will serve as an affordable gift as well as an original addition to your collection and will become a good luck charm.
