Patrons
St. Joseph protects the Czech lands and woodworkers. The Czech Mint presents him on the fifth gold mini coin from the cycle entitled Patrons.
Joseph came from David's family, he was a carpenter and became engaged to a woman named Mary. The Lord appeared to him when he found out that his fiancée, who was a virgin, was awaiting a baby that was not his own. He told him not to be afraid of taking Mary and her prodigy child into his own family. Righteous Joseph obeyed his advice and became the head of the Holy Family and foster father of the future Christian Messiah, who also learned the carpentry craft… Since the saints became patrons of the professions they held, Joseph watched over all workers and woodworkers - carpenters, cabinetmakers, woodcarvers, beechers, wheelwrights, lumberjacks and others. He is also the protector of the persecuted and dying person, the whole church and family. He became an example of a virtuous man that is kind, dignified, righteous, and wise and who is quick in action, but voluntarily retreats into the background … In iconography there you can find his depiction in carpentry shop or as a member of the Holy Family – for example with white lily and little Jesus in his arms.
The medal maker David Kružliak chose this image for the reverse side of the coin. The holy couple is surrounded by a Czech-English inscription SVATÝ JOSEF - SAINT JOSEPH. The obverse side then presents the profile and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2020 and the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), which are the attributes of the island of Niue that provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.
Gold mini coin is set in a special Czech-English packaging and serves as a good luck charm, an affordable gift and an original addition to the collection.
