Old Picture Postcards

The Czech Mint dedicated the gold mini coin set in a replica of a historical postcard to Pernštejn Castle.

The Moravian castle, whose origins date back to the 13th century, is inseparably linked with the lordly family to which it gave its name - it was the seat of the powerful and wealthy lords of Pernštejn. The medieval Gothic fortress was originally simple, but with the passage of time a number of reconstructions were realized into a luxurious Renaissance mansion. The building has retained this appearance to this day. Nevertheless, it has continued to evolve and can be traced in its transformation into a baroque, rococo, classicist and romantic residence. However, Pernštejn offers not only a rich history and architectural spectacle, but also a number of legends - for example, about the charcoal burner who killed a bison, acquired its head for his coat of arms and became the founder of the Pernštejn family... Pernštejn's architectural jewel and heraldic emblem can be found on a lithograph postcard from 1900 which served as a template for the coin packaging.

The reverse side of the coin, which was designed by medal maker Mária Filová, DiS.is dominated by the core of the castle with a tower named Barborka. The composition is supplemented with the inscription PERNŠTEJN. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, they bear its necessary attributes on the obverse side - the portrait of King Charles III, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.

This issue will delight numismatists and philocartographers alike, and is an original and affordable collector's piece as well as an attractive regional gift.
