Old Picture Postcards

Olomouc is another important city that appears on the gold mini-coin of the Czech Mint set in a replica of a historical postcard from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Olomouc
was the third largest city of the lands of the Czech Crown in the Middle Ages. Therefore, the Moravian metropolis with a rich history and a number of important monuments is still a grateful object of tourist interest. This is also related to the rich, collector's sought-after postcard creation. A window postcard printed with sophisticated lithographic technique served as a model for the packaging of the coin. The original was published by Hermann Seibt in Meissen in 1898 and sent from Olomouc to Vienna the following year. The view of the city with the Czech text is supplemented with important buildings and a girl in traditional costume from Haná region.

The coin, which was processed by the medal maker
Petra Brodská, DiS., was dedicated to the Holy Trinity Column - a 35-meter-high Baroque building with a chapel and luxurious sculptural decoration, created as a proof of gratitude for the plague epidemic and which has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - a nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and year of issue 2021.

The issue, which will delight both numismatists and philocartists, is an original and affordable collector's item and an attractive regional gift.
