Product description

Another city to which the Czech Mint has dedicated a gold proof coin set in a replica of a historical postcard is Kroměříž, whose castle and gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During the period of ecclesiastical colonization in the early 12th century, the Moravian market town of Kroměříž became the property of the bishops and later archbishops of Olomouc, who built a summer residence here. Over the centuries, the Gothic castle was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau, which was seamlessly complemented by enchanting gardens - the larger Romantic Podzámecká Garden and the smaller Baroque Flower Garden, which is an authentically preserved example of 17th-century geometrically designed garden art. The chateau’s valuable interiors form a remarkable complex comprising both ceremonial and residential spaces, a unique picture gallery, a library, and a music archive. It is worth noting that the bishops of Olomouc enjoyed special privileges, including the right to mint coins - this took place in the 17th and 18th centuries right here in Kroměříž, and the castle therefore possesses an extensive collection of ecclesiastical coinage, surpassed only by the numismatic collection in the Vatican… Naturally, Kroměříž Castle could not be missing from a late 19th-century lithographic postcard, which served as the model for the coin’s packaging.

Medalist EvaProusková, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a view of the rotunda in the Flower Garden. The composition is completed by the inscription KROMĚŘÍŽ. Since coins from the Czech Mint are issued under a foreign license from the island of Niue, the obverse side bears the name and portrait of King Charles III, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue 2026.

This original issue is an affordable collector’s item that will delight numismatists, philatelists, tourists, and patriots of Kroměříž alike.
