The fifth gold mini coin of the Czech Mint, set in a replica of a historical postcard with a Slovak motif, commemorates Košice and the St. Elizabeth´s Cathedral.

A Romanesque church dedicated to St. Michael stood in Košice in the 11th century, but after it was burned down in the 14th century, it was decided to build a magnificent replacement. The construction of a new representative church - 60 meters long and 60 meters high - was paid by the citizens of Košice. Pilgrims who bought indulgences from the church also helped to finance the costly project, and Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg also contributed to funds. Therefore, one of the towers that offers a magnificent view of the historic city center was named after him. When the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth of Thuringia was completed, it held 5,000 worshipers, therefore, it became the largest church in Slovakia. However, this is not the only primacy of the Košice tabernacle - the dome is also the easternmost European cathedral built in the High Gothic style.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker Bc. Zuzana Hubená, DiS., presents the majestic cathedral. The composition is supplemented with the Slovak inscription KOŠICE – DÓM SV. ALŽBETY. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - a nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and year of issue 2021.

The issue, which will delight both numismatists and philokartists, is an original and affordable collector's item and an attractive regional gift.
