Product description
Who would not know a fairytale ant named Ferdinand, who wears a spotted scarf and manages all kinds of work. He came to the world 85 years ago and the first gold coin from the five-part collector´s miniseries of the Czech Mint was released on the occasion of his birthday.
The cartoon character created by the writer Ondřej Sekora first appeared in the People´s News in 1933 and gradually became the main hero of a number of his books, comics, animated films and serials. In particular his positive character ensured him popularity. He is inventive, smart, fearless, optimistic at all times, he knows how to deal every situation and is always helpful. However, he does not live in the fairytale microcosm alone. In his stories there are the characters that are not so virtuous. For example, Beetle Sack, who was everywhere and knows everything, beautiful but arrogant Miss Ladybird or perpetually bad-tempered snail.
Despite the fact these characters are gradually appearing in the fairy tale miniseries, the reverse side of the first coin is dedicated to Ferdinand himself. The two-dimensional cartoon character was transformed into an embossed form by expert medal maker Irena Hradecká DiS. The obverse side bears the attributes of the island of Niue, which means the name and the profile of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2018, together with the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) that provides the Czech Mint with licence to coin its own commemorative coins.
A cheerful collector´s album with illustrations by Ondřej Sekora where you can save another four gold mintages is an integral part of every Ferdinand coin.
