Product description

The cycle of commemorative coins of the Czech National Bank, which have been released between 2016 and 2020, was dedicated to the most famous and most significant Czech castles. The sixth gold coin, with a nominal value of 5000 CZK minted in quality standard, reminds of the extensive ruin of Rabi Castle.

Rabi was founded as a small Romanesque castle probably at the beginning of the 13th century and gradually was rebuilt several times in the form of a Gothic fortress with impressive fortifications. This was indeed necessary because the castle was on a limestone ridge in the Upper Pootavi, where it guarded the rich rice paddies along the gold-bearing river. Rabbi had enlived fighting many times. For example, during the Hussite wars, it was besieged by the Kalishnich troops twice. While at the first siege the castle crew gave up without fighting, it resisted for the second time, and although the castle eventually fell, Jan Zizka paid for the victory with his remaining eye ...

The art form of the mintage is work of a medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. The bank committee of the Czech National Bank was impressed by the monumental conception of the ruins. The reverse side is dominated by the detailed view of the remains of the castle buildings. The obverse side was dedicated to the aerial view of the complex, placing the heraldic animals of the Czech Republic in cannons.

The Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou is the exclusive producer of the Czech National Bank coins. You can store the gold coins in a special collector's etui, which you can also find in our offer.
