Product description
The Czech National Bank devoted the fourth gold coin from the cycle, which represents the most interesting castles of the Czech Republic, to a Gothic Pernstejn Castle. Commemorative coins with a nominal value of CZK 5000 are minted in extraordinary quality proof.
A medieval castle from the middle of the 13th century gave the name to one of our most important aristocratic families - the lords of Pernstejn. In their coat of arms there was a black head of a bison with golden withes in the nozzles, while historians still rack their brains over this scene. It was a tale about the coalman Venava, who missed food every day. He waited therefore for the offender, who turned out to be a huge bison. The coalman overpowered the ox, pushed the rope through his nostrils and took it to the royal court. There - right in front of the king's eyes - he cut off bison´s head with an axe. The emperor was amazed by the act and promised the serf to fulfill any wish. Venava requested a piece of land and became a free lord and founder of a powerful dynasty.
The coat of arms tale served Lubos Charvat as an inspiration for creating an art design of a commemorative coin, which won the Czech National Bank competition. A sophisticated reverse, next to a perspective view of the castle, presents a coalman that leads the bison to the slaughter. The bison´s coat of arms, taken from the castle relief, became the main motif of the reverse side of the coin, while accompanied by the heraldic animals of the Czech Republic.
All coins issued by the Czech National Bank were embossed in the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou. A special wooden etui with the motifs of the castles was also created for the gold coins collectors.
