If you belong to collectors, who seek an attractive investment opportunities, then you have certainly notted, when the Czech National Bank decided to open a new series of gold coins CZK 5000, whose theme are the Czech castles. First of the fortifications, which will appear on the reverse of this commemorative mintage, is the monumental castle Kost.
A Gothic castle Kost is one of the most preserved castles of medieval architecture in our country. It can be visited while wandering through a protected landscape area the Bohemian Paradise. During its long history, beginning in the 14th century, the castle belonged to many aristocratic families. In the middle of 16th century it was by Kryštof Popel of Lobkowicz extended of the Lobkowicz Palace and other outbuildings, and in its vicinity was even built a brewery. In 1948 the castle was confiscated and during the following communist era served as a museum of Gothic and Renaissance art. It is currently owned by the Kinský family.
A sightseeing tours shows the interiors of castle, furniture, portraits of nobility as well as an extensive collection of rifles, pistols and other weapons.
The author of both sides of the new gold coin is the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, which with his proposals has won first, as well as second prize in the competition organized by the Czech National Bank. The Commission particularly appreciated the realistic, high quality rendition of the castle on the reverse, which bears the text KOST CASTLE, and the year 2016. The obverse is dedicated to a depictions of the Gothic portal chapel with its heraldic emblem of the Czech Lands and inscriptions CZECH REPUBLIC, CASTLES and CZK 5000.
