Product description
The new gold five-ducat of St. Wenceslas, minted by the Czech Mint in 2022, will appeal to collectors, investors and anyone looking for a truly valuable gift.
Prince Wenceslas, who reigned in the 10th century, was renowned as a peaceful ruler endowed with a number of virtues, among which chivalry, morality and piety stood out. He grew wine and grain for Holy Communion, cared for the poor, and built religious buildings, such as the Prague Rotunda of St. Vitus, the forerunner of the cathedral of the same name. The Czech lands prospered under Wenceslas rule, and after he died at the hands of his brother Boleslaus, he became one of the most popular patron saints of our country... No wonder that the following generations paid tribute to him in various ways - for example, through gold ducats, which were minted not only by Czech kings but also by Czechoslovak finance ministers. The famous first-republican St. Wenceslas ducats served as a store of value, but people liked them especially as a gift for important events - for the cradle, for graduation or even for a wedding. Modern ducat minted by the Czech Mint are used in the same way.
Medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák placed a holy relic in the form of Prince Wenceslas' skull with a crown on the reverse side of the gold five-ducat. Surrounding scenes - a knight's helmet, a bunch of wine, ears of grain, a rotunda and a hand feeding an infirm man - refer to the virtues of St. Wenceslas. The text on the obverse side states SV. VÁCLAV – 5-DUKÁT. The reverse side of the mintage is filled with a flaming eagle clutching the sword of St. Wenceslas in its talons. The year 2022 completes the composition of the reverse side.
Each five-ducat is hand-numbered on the edge and bears a unique numbered certificate covered with a layer of pure gold.
