Czech Lion 2021

World investment coins are often dedicated to strong national symbols, and the "Czech Lion", which is the first mintage of its kind intended for the Czech market, is no exception. The gold coin of the Czech Mint, which weighs one troy ounce, is minted in top quality proof.

Investment coins are usually minted in a "standard" design - this means that their entire surface is matte and resistant to damage. Such coins are easy to handle and have a long service life. However, the Czech Mint's investment coins are not just a financial tool - many people appreciate their
artistic processing and they include them in numismatic collections. Therefore, "Czech Lions" are also created in quality "proof", which is characterized by a mirror-shiny surface and a matte relief. This attractive contrast effect is achieved by a special modification of the tools used for minting. At the beginning of the "proofing" process, the surface of the stamping die is polished using special tools and diamond paste. Then the stamping die is covered with a special adhesive tape. The proofreader will carefully cut and remove the tape on the parts of the relief that are to remain matte. They work under a microscope and apply this procedure to even the finest details. Sand of various roughness is then applied to the camouflaged stamping die. This makes the exposed parts of the relief matte. Finally, the remaining tape is removed, which has retained selected parts of the relief polished. During minting, the gloss and matte are then transferred from the stamping die directly to the coin…

All variants of the investment coin were
reworked in 2021, but the main idea remained. The reverse side is dominated by the Czech lion in an untraditionally realistic presentation with the St. Wenceslas crown on its head. The obverse side then presents an eagle on a shield, which is a synthesis of St. Wenceslas, Moravian and Silesian predators. The author of the relief is traditionally the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, their obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, a nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.

The Czech Mint
has wide experience with the production of investment or so-called bullion coins. We have been minting "Czech Lion" gold and silver coins since 2017 and they have become popular among investors not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also in Hungary, Germany, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Canada and the United States. The largest online distributor of precious metals in the world has also requested them for its offer. One of the reasons why the Czech Mint's investment coins have so quickly joined the ranks of world-famous counterparts (such as the Austrian Wiener Philharmoniker, the Canadian Maple Leaf, South African Krugerrand, the American Eagle, the Chinese Panda and the Australian Kangaroo) is their low number of final pieces. While investment coins of foreign mints are minted in the order of millions, the limit of issuance of coins minted in the Czech Republic is counted to hundreds or thousands. This fact increases the potential for investment appreciation and adds a collector's dimension. Thanks to the artistic processing, the coins will also serve perfectly as an original and valuable gift - for graduation, wedding, the birth of a child and just for fun…
