Product description

Gold 1-ducat is issued in the year when we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the issue of the first Republican St.Wenceslas ducats. Therefore, it received a brand new relief.

Gold ducats are one of the main products of the Czech Mint. In 2023, St. Wenceslas will reappear on coins that will delight collectors, patriots and anyone looking for an original and valuable gift.
The first Czech gold coins, called ducats, were minted by King Charles IV. When the Jagiellonians came to the Czech throne, the figure of St. Wenceslas - the patron saint of the Czech lands - appeared in relief for the first time. The gold content of the ducats was carefully controlled, therefore, they belonged to the most reliable coins of their time. The weight of each ducat was set at 3.49 g and the purity of the gold used at 986/1000. Gradually, various multiples began to appear - from two ducats to one hundred ducats - and ducats remained legal tender for several centuries. Ducat coins were also minted during the First Republic, when they became a popular gift for various important occasions, and the last attempt to resume their minting occurred in 1951. This tradition is continued by the new gold ducats of the Czech Mint, which are again dedicated to the personality of the legendary Přemyslid prince.

The obverse side of the gold ducat, which is the work of the medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák, presents St. Wenceslas in the form of a knight - with a helmet and in a ring armour. The text on the obverse side states SV. VÁCLAV – 1-DUKÁT . The reverse side of the mintage is filled with a flaming eagle clutching the sword of St. Wenceslas in its talons. The composition of the reverse side is supplemented with the year 2023 and the text of the famous chant: ST. WENCESLAS, DUKE OF THE CZECH LAND... DO NOT LET US PERISH.

An integral part of each mintage is a unique certificate covered with a layer of gold.
