Product description

Gold ducats are one of the flagship products of the Czech Mint. In 2022, St. Wenceslas will reappear on coins that will delight collectors, patriots and anyone looking for an original and valuable gift.

The first Czech
gold coins, called ducats, were minted by King Charles IV himself. When the Jagiellonian dynasty came to the Czech throne, the figure of St. Wenceslas - the patron saint of the Czech lands - appeared in relief for the first time. The gold content of the ducats was carefully controlled and they were among the most reliable coins of their time. They inspired confidence in Europe and gave prestige to the Czech lands. The weight of each ducat was set at 3.49 g and the purity of the gold used at 986/1000. Gradually, various multiples began to appear - from two ducats to one hundred ducats - and so the ducats remained legal tender for several centuries. Ducat coins were also minted during the First Republic, when they became a popular gift for various important events, and the last attempt to resume their minting occurred in 1951. This tradition is continued by the new gold ducats of the Czech Mint, which are again dedicated to the personality of the legendary Přemyslid prince.

The obverse side of the gold ducat, which is the work of the medal maker
Mgr. Petr Horák, presents Saint Wenceslas in the form of a knight with a helmet, cloak and a weathervane with a depiction of a flaming eagle. The text on the obverse side states SV. VÁCLAV – 1-DUKÁT. The reverse side of the mintage is filled with a flaming eagle clutching the sword of St Wenceslas in its talons. The year 2022 completes the composition of the reverse side.

An integral part of each coin is a unique
certificate covered with a layer of pure gold.
