Product description

A number of great thinkers were born in Great Britain. Therefore the legendary Isaac Newton and Stephen Hawking are commemorated by the commemorative coin of The Royal Mint.

An genious brain with imagination without boundaries was trapped in a limited human body. This could briefly describe the life of a man who continued to proces the work of Albert Einstein and discovered the holy grail of modern physics - the so-called "theory of everything" that should use uniform laws to describe the behavior of miniature subatomic particles and gigantic galactic clusters. But Stephen Hawking was not just a brilliant scientist. He was also a great storyteller who was able to convey complex scientific questions to the general public, therefore, he popularized the issue of the existence of time and space as no one before him…

The design, which was officially approved by the administrator of Stephen Hawking's estate, does not present a first-class portrait. The artist Edwin Ellis placed a stylized black hole - a space phenomenon studied by the British scientist – under his name. The reverse side was enclosed by the notation of the equation that describes the entropy of the black holes and credibly proves their existence. The obverse side of the coin belongs to the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. from the profile, the year of the issue 2019, the nominal value of 50 PENCE (GBP) and abbreviated Latin inscription, which can be translated as "Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith".

The first coin from the cycle, which is going to introduce key personalities of science, was stored in a special packaging that describes nearer the study of black holes (in English).
