Gold advisor or alternative precious metals

11/07/2023

Precious metals belong to one of the main four groups of investment commodities. Other groups are energy, agricultural products and meat and livestock. In the context of precious metals, investors prefer gold, but other colored metals are also growing in popularity.

The role of the second most popular metal has long been played by silver - a white metal that, like gold, is used in jewelry and in the manufacture of electronics. However, unlike gold, it cannot boast of a long-term rising price trend. While gold is currently oscillating just below its all-time high, silver last experienced its all-time high in 2011, when it was worth nearly fifty dollars (roughly 1,100 crowns) per troy ounce.

Don't miss: Why invest in silver?

In addition to silver, there is constant interest in platinum, which is considered a very exclusive precious metal. Platinum has a silver color, is very heavy and durable. Thanks to its unique properties, it is used in the chemical industry and pharmacy. Similar to silver and gold, investment bars and jewelry are also made from platinum.

Supporters of alternative precious metals have also recently become popular with palladium, which also has a gray color. In jewelry, the term white gold is used for a mixture of gold and palladium. Palladium is also used in the chemical or automotive industries. It is mined primarily in Russia.

The list of silvery metals is rounded off by rhodium. In the chemical or glass industry, it is used alongside platinum and palladium. Rhodium has been experiencing a dynamic price period in recent years. It is generally considered to be the most expensive metal on the planet. All time high rhodium set in 2021 just below the value of 30 thousand dollars per troy ounce (680 thousand crowns).

Copper also belongs to the group of precious metals, although it is significantly cheaper than the aforementioned commodities. Copper is valued for its wide range of uses and its specific color, which distinguishes it from other precious metals. In the next part of the investment guide, we will look at commodities.
