A precious gift to the birth of a new baby
Jáchymov thalers were struck in the 16th century by count Šlik in Jáchymov (in German they were called Joachimsthalergulden). Spoonerism of the word thaler gave rise to the name of dollar. As a result, the thaler became a symbol of many current coins but also of silver.
The gift for the occasion of baby birth and christening thus has a permanent value of this precious metal and, in addition to it, of the art work of designers and the mint’s engravers. Motifs on the baby and christening medals are regularly changed by Czech Mint.
The baby who is given a thaler as a gift is receiving a talisman to have his/her future steps guided by a lucky star.
The main motif of the obverse side is a sleeping baby and stars. The legend in circumscription reads “Tolar k narození dítěte 2013“ (Baby and Christening Thaler 2013).
The reverse side features a central field left empty for the engraving of an individual dedication according to the wish of the buyer. A ribbon forming the shape of a heart delimits the field.
