Traditional ducat series
The fourth Ducat series of the Czech Mint, created in 2024 for Slovak collectors and investors, tells the story of Maria Theresa. The gold double ducat presents the famous woman in the role of a monarch.
At the beginning of the 18th century, the situation in the Habsburg Empire looked bleak. Charles VI, the last surviving male representative of the ancient line, was unable to produce a male heir, so he pinned all his hopes on his daughter, who was named Maria Theresa. Although he allowed her to rule the Habsburg states by issuing the so-called Pragmatic Sanction, not all European powers were willing to accept a woman on the throne. Some claimed her rightful position, or at least part of the indivisible fiefdom. Maria Theresa did not emerge from this conflict as the victor, but it hardened her all the more. She passed on a modern superpower to her successors and left a legacy that her male contemporaries could only dream of.
The obverse side of the two-ducat design, by Slovak medal maker Branislav Ronai, presents the badges of Maria Theresa's power - the sword, apple, scepter and the sovereign's crown. The reverse side bears a portrait of the monarch.
The gold coin weighing two ducats is issued in an edition of only 50 pieces and respects the specifications set by the First Republican St. Wenceslas ducats.
