Product description

For every culture in the world, the birth of a child is a opportunity for celebration, and ours is no exception. There are many rituals associated with the celebration, including the giving of gifts to the newborn baby. Such attention can take many forms, but the traditional gift since ever has been a penny made of precious metal - for example, this silver thaler from the Czech Mint in the Slovak version, which can be engraved with a dedication. The talisman in the form of a coin was given to children in the families of noblemen, wealthy townsmen and poor peasants. The precious attention became the first investment in his or her future, which his or her parents cherished for him or her until adulthood.

The Jáchymov thaler was a silver coin that originated in the Czech Kingdom in 1520. The currency, which was famous for the exceptional quality of the metal used, spread throughout Europe and its success prompted the minting of many imitations. The Bohemian thaler became, for example, the Dutch daler, which was used for payment in the American colonies, among other places. Another corruption of the Czech word gave rise to the famous dollar. Throughout history, thalers have served mainly for commercial purposes, but they have also played a representative role. Because of their beauty and, above all, their value, they became a proven gift given to babies so that they would not suffer privations in life. After World War II, the cradle penny was almost forgotten, however, the Czech Mint decided to revive this tradition by minting its own silver thalers designed specifically for the occasion of the birth of a child. The beauty and value of the silver remained and an incalculable personal value was added in the form of an engraved dedication.

Medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., dedicated the obverse side of the silver thaler to a sleeping baby carried by a stork. The reverse side is then reserved for engraving text that can take the form of a personal message, name, date of birth, ... - there are no limits to imagination. The only limit is the size of the text.

Do not miss other variations of the birth money - in our 2024 offer you will find two different precious metals, two different artistic motifs and variants without engraved dedication.
