Patrons

There are over two dozen St. Anthony's in history. The most famous of them, St. Anthony of Padua, is commemorated by another gold mini coin from the Patrons series minted by the Czech Mint.

Saint Anthony of Padua was born into a famous Portuguese family, but his mother wanted him to be a Christian rather than a nobleman. He entered the Augustinian Order, where he devoted himself entirely to the study of the Bible, but later decided to convert to the Franciscans. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of the missionaries who had become martyrs in spreading Christianity in Africa. He hoped that he too would be able to give his life for his faith, but God had other plans for him. Shortly after setting foot on the black continent, Anthony fell ill and had to return to Europe. A storm drove his ship to the shores of Italy, where he found a new home. He met Francis of Assisi himself and lived a life of prayer and penance in the silence of the Apennine forestsHe fulfilled the humble duties of the monastery and did not stand out, but then he had to unexpectedly take the place of the preacher and proved to be an unsurpassed orator. From then on he brought the Gospel to the poor peasants, the rich nobles and the young religious. He spoke in churches, in town squares and on beaches, where his sermons were attended by thirty thousand eager listeners. Even St. Francis was impressed by his gift, and in Rimini even fish stuck their heads out of the water to listen to him. When he settled in Padua, people came to secure seats near the pulpit the day before, just to hear him well. Anthony spared no expense. He longed to burn in the ministry, and he succeeded. He died at only thirty-six years old - happy to have given everything to his dearest Jesus... The process of Anthony's canonization was the shortest in the history of the Church. To this day, he is one of the most popular saints and is prayed to by lovers, fiancés, spouses and families, for example. He is invoked for happy childbirth and against infertility. Last but not least, he helps in the search for lost things.

The medal maker David Kružliak dedicated the reverse side of the coin to St. Anthony in the form of a monk holding the baby Jesus and the host. The Czech-English inscription on the reverse side states SV. ANTONÍN Z PADOVY - ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA. As the licence to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the name and portrait of King Charles III, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.

The gold coin weighing one half gram is set in a special Czech-English packaging. It will serve as an affordable gift and an original addition to your collection and will become a good luck charm.
