Product description
Queen Elizabeth II became monarch of Great Britain in 1952. The Royal Mint commemorates this "Platinum Jubilee" of her reign by issuance of a commemorative coin.
Queen Elizabeth II celebrated an incredible 95th birthday in 2021, and she lived to see another spectacular anniversary a year later. In fact, 2022 marks 70 years since the respected British monarch ascended the throne. This fact, which is referred to as the platinum jubilee, makes her the longest reigning figure in UK history. Elizabeth II has surpassed even the legendary Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years, and is steadily rising to the top of the list of the longest reigning monarchs in history. It is led by Louis XIV with 72 years on the throne...
The reverse side of the coin, designed by Osborne Ross, is dominated by the jubilee number 70, with the monogram of Elizabeth II set inside the zero, supplemented with the anniversary years 1952-2022. The obverse side, made by artist John Bergdahl, then presents the Queen riding a horse. The composition of the obverse side is supplemented with the historic Anglo-Norman motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE (shame on all the people who thinks ill of him), the Latin inscription ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), the nominal value of 50 PENCE (GBP) and the year of issue 2022.
The commemorative coin, minted from base metal, is stored in a special packaging which presents the Queen's platinum jubilee in words and pictures (in English).
