Product description

War, disease, … – wherever people suffer, the Red Cross helps. Support its charitable activities with us! The gold ducat boasts an extraordinary story.

Florence Nightingale awaited a comfortable life. However, she exchanged the role of an English noblewoman for the ungrateful profession of a nurse and a luxury residence for the blood and dirt of the Crimean War. When she arrived in Istanbul in 1854, 42% of the wounded soldiers had been dying in military hospitals, but thanks to the pioneering methods she introduced, this alarming number was reduced to a mere 2%. Clean bed linen, plenty of light and fresh air, healthy food and fun - these and many other seemingly insignificant things have saved the lives of thousands of people. Unselfish nurse gained the recognition of Queen Victoria, the Turkish Sultan and Henri Dunant, whom she inspired to found the Red Cross, and her procedures quickly spread to hospitals around the world. It is only convenient that we can pay tribute to the woman who took care of people in need day and night in the year when the coronavirus rampage hit the world. The medal also acknowledges everyone - professionals and volunteers - who make the world a better place even 200 years after Florence Nightingale's birth.

The reverse side of the ducat, which was processed by the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek, presents a portrait of Florence Nightingale inspired by period photography, her name and the life years 1820–1910. The Red Cross symbol is placed in the background. The reverse side is completely filled with the word THANK YOU in a number of foreign languages.

We will donate 20 EUR from the sell of each gold medal to the Slovak Red Cross, which is the patron of the issue. If you buy this gold medal, you will contribute to a good cause and at the same time you will enrich your collection with an extraordinary piece. If you want to thank someone who helped you in difficult times, you can use the medal as a gift – for this purpose, there is a space for dedication in the certificate of authenticity …
