Product description

A newborn baby is always the centre of attention and its loved ones are competing to see who can flash the best gift. For everyone who is looking for an original, yet traditional gift, the Czech Mint has prepared silver commemorative medals - silver thalers to the birth of a child.

Our ancestors gave the lucky penny to newborns.
In the families of rich noblemen but also poor peasants, the baby was usually given a talisman in the form of a coin made of precious metal by the godfather or godmother. The coin was placed in the cradle, giving rise to the phrases "in the wrapper" and "in the swaddle", which are still used today in connection with baby gifts. The fashion for "inherited coins" in the Czech lands began in the Renaissance era and ended in the 19th century, when the Church began issuing its own baptismal medals. In the 20th century - after the establishment of the Czechoslovak Republic - the state began issuing the so-called St. Wenceslas ducats, which people quickly grew to love for this purpose, and the Czech Mint continues in the 21st century.

The design of the thaler for 2022 is the work of the medal maker
Petr Patka, DiS. The obverse side is dedicated to a pair of cute babies, which is supplemented with a heart and the inscription TOLAR K NAROZENÍ DÍTĚTE (THALER TO THE BIRTH OF A CHILD). A boy and a girl can also be found on the reverse side, where they are surrounded by zodiac signs and various children's motifs.

In addition to the thaler, the
special gift packaging also includes a certificate of authenticity with space for inscribing a personal dedication and baby's details.
