The cycle of silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 500 CZK, which will commemorate famous means of transport over the course of five years, presents its fourth issue. The coin with the year 2024, which was minted in proof version, is dedicated to the ČKD Tatra T3 tram.

Timeless rounded shapes, unmistakable round lights, a high headboard above the front window, plastic and fibreglass... The Tatra T3 tram is one of the most famous public transport vehicles in the Czech Republic. Although the first passengers rode it as early as 1962, its modernised versions still form a large part of the fleet in Prague. A total of 14,000 units were produced, making the "tétrojka" a world record holder - the most numerous tram in history. Two thousand cars served in their homeland, the greater half of them in the capital, and other multi-car series were exported abroad. The spacious, comfortable, powerful and fast cars were popular with people in Yugoslavia, Romania, East Germany and especially in the Soviet Union. Moscow bought 2,000 of them, Kiev 900 and Kharkov 700. The farthest city where they regularly travelled was Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The author of the commemorative coin was the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů. The expert committee of the Czech National Bank appreciated in particular "the excellent representation of the T3 tram and the imaginative composition of views and details".
