Czech UNESCO Heritage

The fourteenth and for now last issue of the collector-investment series of platinum coins that pays tribute to the Czech monuments listed by UNESCO is dedicated to the Ore Mountains mining region.

Eight centuries of continuous mining and ore processing
- from silver to uranium - have transformed the Ore Mountains into a unique mining landscape. The dense network of mining towns with various monuments above and below ground is a testament to the enormous historical influence of the region, from where innovations in mining, metallurgy and coinage spread around the world. After all, it was the Jáchymov thaler that became the world-famous dollar. The rugged mountain region also bears witness to the coexistence of people on both sides of the Czech-German border.

The reverse side of the coin from the studio of
Lenka Nebeska, DiS., is dominated by the mining monuments of the Ore Mountains - the Vlčí jámy (Wolf Pits), where tin ore was mined in the Middle Ages, and the tower of the Svornost underground mine, which was rich in silver and later became the first uranium mine in the world. The composition is completed by mining symbols - a thresher, a handcuff and a mine cart at the entrance to the adit. The perimeter of the reverse is surrounded by a pearl decoration with the inscription HORNICKÝ REGION KRUŠNOHOŘÍ. The obverse side of the coin, which is common to the entire platinum series, bears a collage of architectural elements from various Czech buildings inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the year of issue 2021.

A
special certificate of authenticity is an integral part of the coin, which is issued in a mintage of only 100 pieces.

At the time the platinum series began to be issued, twelve tangible monuments were listed by UNESCO. In 2019, this prestigious list has been expanded to include two more Czech sites. These also appear on the coins, but unfortunately they do not fit into the wooden collector's case that was created in 2017.
