Product description

The Czech Mint dedicated the gold mini coin set in a replica of a historical postcard to another city - České Budějovice.

České Budějovice was founded by Ottokar II of Bohemia as a base of royal power in southern Bohemia in 1265. Over the centuries, the town has become not only an administrative and cultural metropolis, but also home to numerous monuments and historical attractions that are reflected in local postcard art. A number of prints from the late 19th century belong to the most collectible and popular postcards. “A beautiful multi-shot lithograph postcard, which served as a model for the coin packaging, was published by the renowned Viennese publisher K. Schwidernoch in 1898. In its preserved condition with intact franking, it is considered a philatelic unique piece,“ says postcard expert Pavel Vursta. It is not without interest that the postcard comes from the same era when the history of the famous Budvar brewery began to be written in České Budějovice...

Medal maker Matěj Funk, DiS. donated the reverse side of the coin to the Budějovice City Hall. This protected monument was built during the 15th century by joining two Gothic townhouses and underwent a Baroque reconstruction in the 18th century. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, they bear the national emblem, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023 on the obverse side.

The original issue represents an affordable collector's piece that will delight numismatists, philocartists and patriots of České Budějovice.
